Black Fives Magnet Set
Basketball was invented in 1891, and for the next sixty years the sport, like American society of the time, remained racially segregated. Dozens of amateur, semipro, and professional all-black teams, or "black fives," emerged and flourished in the United States decades before the National Basketball Association was born. Playing well organized barnstorming circuits, teams like the New York Renaissance Big Five, the Pittsburgh Scholastics, and the Independent Pleasure Club of New Jersey thrilled fans nationwide with exciting, innovative play.
This magnet set features the New York Girls basketball team as well as the New York Renaissance, the winners of the 1939 World Professional Basketball Tournament.
Two 3.5"x2.5" magnets.
