In his travels Mark Twain was witness to centuries of faith and tradition. Shabbat and Jewish holiday meals begin with a blessing over a cup of wine. Many families have a special glass or goblet specifically for the purpose, often an heirloom that has been passed down through the generations, The Godinger Kiddush Cup is exquisitely crafted out of 24 percent full lead crystal. Etched with the Hebrew wine blessing "boray pree hagafen".
The exhibition Mark Twain and the Holy Land (October 25, 2019 – February 2, 2020) commemorates the 150th anniversary of one of the best-selling travelogues of all time, The Innocents Abroad, as it illuminates Mark Twain’s fabled journey and explores his and other Americans’ perceptions of the Holy Land in the postbellum era.
