A bolster or booster, our exclusive Ripley Scroll pillow gives comfort illustrated with talismans of great power and energy. The dragon and lions featured on our magical pillow play starring roles in the Ripley Scroll, an alchemical manuscript named for the renowned 15th Century alchemist George Ripley (ca. 1415 - 1490), and on view in the exhibition Harry Potter: a History of Magic.
Alchemy, as the early precursor to modern chemistry, had two basic objectives; to create the Philosophers stone, which would turn base metal into gold, and produce an elixir to cure all ills and promote eternal life. The Ripley scroll reveals the means to these goals through fantastical imagery, and the dragon and lions represent the second and third stages of the mystical process.
