Description

Where in the world is Nellie Bly?  Ornamentally decorating your tree, of course.

In 1889, Elizabeth Cochrane (American, 1864-1922), a twenty-five-year-old journalist for Joseph Pulitzer’s World newspaper, who wrote under the pseudonym Nellie Bly, set sail from New York in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe in less than 80 days.  Traveling by ship, train, rickshaw, sampan, horse, camel, and burro, she returned to a cheering crowd in under seventy-three days, breaking the record for the fastest trip around the world.  Thus she was touted as the most famous woman on Earth..

Nellie Bly is presented in her travel-ready Ulster whilst holding her Gladstone.
