This vintage exhibition poster features Bruce McCall's wonderfully wacky Lost in Times Square. The illustration was featured on The New Yorker magazine cover on May 31, 1999. The poster was created for the 1999 exhibition The Zany Visions of Bruce McCall at the James Goodman Gallery in New York City. This fine poster is available exclusively at the NYHistory Store and is a welcome site as we all emerge from lockdown.
Showcasing the vibrant and humorous work of the renowned author and prolific artist, the exhibition Bruce McCall’s New York presents colorful visions of a fantastical version of New York City—where pterodactyls fly down Central Park West, King Kongs wait to audition for the role of a lifetime, rooftop farms reach far up into the sky, and ubiquitous orange parking tickets are part of the fall foliage. The exhibition features more than 40 zany paintings that transport visitors to an often retro-futuristic New York and invite them to ponder what the city is or could be. Bruce McCall’s New York is on view through August 15, 2021.
