Drink to the Hudson River!
Don't let your beverages overflow, but if they do our Map the Waterways of New York City coaster set of Manhattan in 1865 by Egbert Viele will come to the rescue. The map is spread over a set of 4 absorbent stone coasters map showing all the original water courses of Manhattan Island, with the street grid superimposed on top. The map details three different kinds of lands shown: Marsh, Made Land, and Meadow. Sewer lines are indicated.
The Hudson River is much more than a body of water. The Hudson has been the home for humans and hundreds of species of fish, birds, and plants for centuries. Our exhibition, Hudson Rising, reflects on how human activity has impacted the river and, in turn, how the river environment has shaped art, industrial development, commerce, tourism, and environmental awareness. On view March 1 – August 2, 2019.
