Royal Jelly Harlem

Maya Gorgoni, one half of the Mother/Daughter duo behind the rapidly rising ROYAL JELLY HARLEM and daughter of world renowned Artist/Photo-Journalist, Gianfranco Gorgoni was born and raised in New York City’s Soho community. The other half of the design duo is Mom, Teta Gorgoni, who worked several years in the fashion industry as a stylist, editor and boutique owner. It only seems natural that this exposure of artistic, bohemian pedigree would have led her to design.

ROYAL JELLY HARLEM (RJH), founded in February 2011 is an Online Boutique, African-inspired clothing and home decorating line using African Wax/Ankara printed textiles. The contemporary designs are influenced by the silhouettes of the 1950s-60s. Maya and Teta wanted to create what they call “Wearable Art” after Maya’s many trips to West and South Africa. She was so inspired by the artistry of the printed fabrics which made an indelible impression on what was to become this exciting new line.

Maya is an avid traveler who worked in hotel hospitality management for many years and is currently manager/owner of “Casa Tua, a hospitality-alternative home-away rental in Harlem, NY in addition to co/designer of RJH.
