Description

Our Oppenheimer Print facsimile of Audubon’s Watercolors Alternate Pl. 40, Bald Eagle, offers viewers a raw and unfiltered perspective into Audubon’s working process. Capturing every stray pencil mark, instructional notation, or reworked element of the composition, this made-to-order print captures the spontaneity, inventiveness, and tenderness of Audubon’s original watercolors. Measures: 38 1/4 x 25 3/8 inches.

The Oppenheimer-New York Historical Edition recreates the preparatory watercolor models John James Audubon (1785-1851) made prior to the publication of the double elephant folio edition of The Birds of America (1827-38) engraved by Robert Havell Jr. (1793-1878). These numbered actual-size facsimiles include all 474 of John James Audubon's avian watercolors in the museum's collection. The edition is limited to 200 prints of each image. With watercolor inks on watercolor paper, these prints directly capture the artist's hand and fundamental vision, unlike any publication before.

Prints are made to order and are subject to additional delivery time and shipping costs.
