The Visscher's Landmark Map of the Northeast, also known as Novi Belgii Novaeque Angliae : nec non partis Virginiae tabula multis in locis emendata is based on the 1651 map of Jansson. It is considered the first map that features the famous inset view of New Amsterdam, which is the third known engraved view of New York. The map accurately shows Manhattan as an island and its settlement at the southern end. The map was published to promote the establishment of a Dutch Colony in the New World and to maintain Dutch control over their New Netherland colony.
