Introducing our new name and logo!
After 220 years of existence, New-York Historical Society has changed its name to The New York Historical. The name change is intended to distinguish the museum from the many other historical societies around the country, but also, with the removal of "society" and the hyphen between New and York, to be more welcoming and modern. The brand iconography combines orange for New York's Dutch roots, white for the indigenous Haudenosaunee, and blue as a presidential color. The logo includes an emblem, the letter H, with a gap between the sides and center that makes it look quite a bit like a hyphen. It’s a subtle nod to that legacy, but also represents New York’s long-standing ability to act as a bridge between different people and cultures. Altogether, our new name and elegantly crafted mark speaks to our history and future.
